Description
Initial production from the Kangaroo Flat plant commenced on 1 October 2006 and ceased due to limited reserves after eight months in May 2007. During this time 175,966 tonnes of ore were treated grading 5.4 g/t gold, and at an average recovery of 88%, produced 26,735 ounces of gold. A further 3,122 ounces were produced during commissioning and decommissioning.
Trial production recommenced in June 2008 to primarily test the Company's revised visual grade estimation method. Further information on this visual grade estimation method is set out under "estimating grade".
The second phase of gold production at the Kangaroo Flat Mine has been successful, with the visual grade estimation technique providing confidence in the assessment and selection of economic mineralisation. The production record achieved in the 2008/09 financial year is encouraging for the longer term sustainability of profitable mining at the Kangaroo Flat Mine.
